spelling, grammar, etc.

Okay, I feel a desperate need to put this out into the world. I have been reading blogs and I am appalled that seemingly intelligent people are so damn ignorant of basic things we all were supposed to learn in grade school:

there is a place — “Over there.”

their indicates possession — “It’s their house.”

they’re is a contraction of the words “they” and “are” — “They’re going to the movies.”

it’s is a contraction of “it” and “is” — “It’s hotter than Hades out there.”

its indicates possession — “The eagle spread its wings and flew away.”

too can be replaced by “also” or “as well” in a sentence — “I, too, believe in ghosts.”

two is a number — “There are two people in that picture.”

And while I am at it, I met someone this week whose speech has inspired me to add this PSA:

a “pitcher” is used to hold liquid or is someone who throws a baseball

a “PIC-ture” is a photograph

irregardless IS NOT A WORD. It’s regardless, people. Ugh.

don’t say “supposably” — it’s supposeDly.
